Alessia Cara & Logic and the Suicide Lifeline

On average, there are 121 suicides per day according to the American Foundation For Suicide Prevention.

1-800-273-8255 is not just the title of a new song, it is the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, and is available to anyone considering suicide or is struggling emotionally.

When you call the toll free number, you are automatically routed to a crisis center near your area where someone will be there to talk immediately…that’s why the ‘8255’ spells out ‘Talk’ on your touch-tone or mobile phone. The counselors will not only help you immediately after dialing the number, but will also give you local mental health referrals.

1-800-273-TALK (8255) also encourages you to call if you yourself aren’t the one struggling, but know someone who is. Remember, the Lifeline is available 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Your phone could be the first step in saving your life, or that of someone you know.

Last year the New York Times reported that the rate of suicide in the United States grew to a 30 year high, and in almost all age groups according to Katherine Hempstead, senior adviser for health care at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
